- Description
Frustration, a perfume to awaken the strong child in the fragile adult or the fragile child in the too-strong adult, a perfume for a regressive journey to the dominion of vanilla, rum and vetiver.
A perfume is a mixture. A mixture like miscellanea, a clash between words and feelings that explain just a little, without explaining too much. You know when your parents used to say: “I’ll tell you when you’re older” and you couldn’t understand why? That’s the type of frustration the perfumer tried to convey in this fragrance.
Happy are the consumers of desire, unhappy the consumers of enjoyment. Sometimes the anticipation of the thing is better than the thing itself.
Frustration gives by taking up, a fullness never satisfied. It’s an enjoyment started but never achieved, an infinite movement of desire without completion, without apotheosis, a composition that excites, seduces, lulls, dominates and annoys.
NOTES
Top: Cumin HE, Cinnamon HE, Pure Rhum Jungle Essence™
Middle: Pure Vanilla Jungle Essence™, Vanilla Absolute, Ciste Absolute
Base: Chestnut Wood Accord, Bourbon Vetiver HE, Vinyl Gaiacol – MANE Biotech
HOW IT WEARS
Opening with an intoxicating concoction of savoury cumin and sweet cinnamon, it doesn’t take long before Frustration develops to reveal its vanilla-heavy heart. It’s a deep, spicy smoky vanilla, enrichened by the warmth of rum and bourbon. Next, the creamy, nutty chestnut and the unique vinyl accord make themselves known for an intiguing dry-down that lasts 6-8 hours on the skin.
LORE LOVES
This is a gourmand fragrance for those who don’t typically love a gourmand. We love that its smoky, savoury elements mean it’s never too sweet, but always delicious. Rich and moreish, Frustration will have you wishing you could taste a perfume!
ABOUT THE BRAND
Founded by Etienne de Swardt in 2006, Etat Libre d’Orange is an ambitious, audacious perfume house. Its name meaning “Free Orange State” in French, this is a house with an emphasis on originality, audacity, authenticity and freedom of expression. Each of Etat Libre d’Orange’s offerings is uncompromisingly surprising and knows no constraints in terms of creativity nor raw materials.
A perfumer for LVMH for many years before going rogue, Etienne de Swardt founded Etat Libre d’Orange with a view to turn the commercial fragrance industry on its head. Its launch certainly made waves, not only due to the raunchy fragrance names, but for the compositions themselves.
Read any review of Etat Libre d’Orange online and you will see a wide range of opinions, from disgusted to delighted, from aroused to inspired. We are obsessed with the daring whimsy of this fragrance house and so excited to have it at Lore!
