Orange blossom absolute, leather and musk. A scent that flouts perfumery convention (no top or middle notes) – made solely of base notes.
Foul Play defies authority. Doesn’t conform. Plays for meaning, not for score. Leads from own path, with tender heart. Not here for likes. Not here for follows. Works Hard. Plays Harder. Hard to catch. Harder to forget.

HOW IT WEARS
As described, Foul Play has no top or middle notes, it’s a fragrance entirely made up of base notes, which means it doesn’t behave in the way a normal fragrance would. The only floral (orange blossom) has been distilled down to its dirty indolic facets, meaning its appearance is not to add sweetness or likeability, rather it adds to the overall animalic, earthy feeling of the fragrance. The most prominent notes in Foul Play to us are the leather, labdanum, oud and native buddawood, which together create a creamy, deep, dark and dirty concoction that lasts on the skin for 6-8 hours.
LORE LOVES
Foul Play is a fragrance for our non-conforming, alternative perfume heads. Skin-like, but bestially, its dry down is sexy and sensual in the most primal of ways. It’s strong, but never too strong so as to be overwhelming. The native botanicals used – like in all of The Raconteur’s fragrances – render it totally unique. One sniff, and you’re tempted to indulge again and again.
ABOUT THE BRAND
Founded in 2019 by Craig Andrade, The Raconteur (“The Storyteller”) is an artisanal luxury fragrance brand specialising in Australian native botanicals and plant extracts.
Having attended one of the world’s most prestigious fragrance schools in Grasse, France, and trained by Elise Pioch Balzac, Andrade knows his perfume. Working with world leader in natural perfumery, Mandy Aftel, he has created Australian botanical extracts and fragrances for use in collaboration with Troye Sivan for Tsu Lange Yor, Paspaley and Cult Design.
“My perfumery practice straddles beauty, art, history, science, botany, geography, and physiology. It comprises rich layers of storytelling and meaning. My focus is on making natural fragrances that combine these elements and provide both pleasure and purpose.” – Craig Andrade
As a fragrance house, The Raconteur is about telling the story of the scent of Australia – a story about the quiet beauty of what was always there. They aim to not only showcase the better-known Australian botanicals (sandalwood, boronia, lemon myrtle, etc) but the rarer ones too – Australia has over 18,000 unique native botanicals, and new ones are being discovered all the time!
All of The Raconteur fragrances are comprised of solely natural ingredients (100% plant derived) and are all vegan and cruelty free.
