HOW IT WEARS
Cowboy Kush kicks off with the bright juiciness of mandarin and the green grassiness of cannabis leaf, warmed by the golden spice of saffron. It doesn’t take long before the scent begins to mellow, the earthy creaminess of hazelnut melding with the suede and leather notes, which aren’t sharp, they’re more worn and smooth, like a brown suede jacket with a fringe. Next comes the sticky tobacco, enveloped by labdanum, oud and patchouli, making for a slightly animalic dry down which is overseen by tonka bean’s powdery sweetness. We find Cowboy Kush lasts 6-8 hours on the skin.

LORE LOVES
Cowboy Kush is a cannabis fragrance unlike any we’ve tried before. It’s the scent of a present-day cowboy, who has a toke of a joint in a laneway before flicking it onto the ground as they saunter to their favourite honky tonk dive bar hidden somewhere in the city. Everyone there is dressed in their best neo-western gear – leather jackets, cowboy boots, suede hats, vintage Levi’s jeans. All the patrons of the bar are cool as cucumbers, toothpicks hanging out the corners of their mouths, as they watch the bravest (or stupidest) of their partners hop onto the mechanical bull just to get tossed off one at a time. Our cowboy sits in the corner, after lining up a song on the jukebox, eyelids low. We find the cannabis fades away fairly quick in Cowboy Kush, and the scent sobers up to reveal a creamy, sexy suede.  

ABOUT THE BRAND
In late 2015, Boy Smells began as an experiment in candle-making in the Los Angeles kitchen of co-founders and partners Matthew Herman and David Kien. Herman and Kien began by making the things they’d want to use daily – products that were fluid, essential, but also accessible.
