The house’s approach in creating the range: to increase parfum concentration, increase the dose of the central main ingredient in each fragrance, and, excitingly, add a new guest ingredient to each fragrance. The Extraits are not just the old fragrances but stronger, they’re elevated in every way.

Creative approach: A powerful and addictive incense based on a unique accord with coffee and vanilla. Matiere Premiere Founder and Perfumer Aurélien Guichard has enriched the original Encens Suave Eau de Parfum with Amber as a guest ingredient. Combined with a higher perfume concentration and an even higher dosage of the main natural ingredient, Incense Oil Somalia, this contemporary Amber note made of resins amplifies the impression of warm richness in Encens Suave.

HOW IT WEARS
Opening with the coffee note, which we find is more prominent in the Extrait than it is in the original, Encens Suave is earthier, richer and darker already. Next comes the sweet spice of vanilla bean before the fragrance descends into its base notes of precious resins. Frankincense is still the star of the show here, in all its glory. Luminous, balsamic, slightly peppery and even a little smoky, the frankincense in Encens Suave Extrait melts effortlessly into the golden warmth of amber, benzoin and labdanum, creating an absolutely irresistable cocktail that lasts on the skin for 10+ hours.

Encens Suave somehow just got even more suave! Deep, rich and sultry, this Extrait version is less gourmand and more earthy, while still being flavoured by the addictive sweetness of vanilla and coffee. ABOUT THE BRAND
Debuted in 2019, Matiere Premiere (or “Raw Materials” in French) is the work of renowned nose and master perfumer, Aurélien Guichard.
The core objective of the Matiere Premiere range is to put a spotlight on some of the most precious fragrance materials from around the world, and to hero the beauty and elegance of a single note fragrance.
A 7th generation perfumer born in Grasse (arguably the perfume capital of the world), Aurélien Guichard has a passion for fragrance running through his veins. He has been the nose behind nearly one hundred fragrances and has worked with brands such as Givenchy, Narcisco Rodriguez, Gucci and Commes de Garcons.
Guichard is also the owner of an organic farm where he produces Rose Centifolia and Tuberose, some of which is used in the Matiere Premiere line, making it one of the only brands in the world to own and produce some of the raw materials used in their fragrances.
“Growing our own rose is a way to reconnect with the essence of the work of a perfumer – creating the fragrance itself, but also supervising the quality and production methods of the raw material” – Aurélien Guichard.
