What do you love about fragrance?
Scent is such an important part of life and the human experience, and for that reason fragrance doesn’t discriminate – it transcends age, gender, size, etc. Anyone from any walk of life can find a fragrance they love, that’s meaningful to them and that works for them – what’s not to love about that?
It all starts somewhere, so what’s your first fragrance memory?
If ever I was sick or feeling down, my parents would pick a couple of gardenias from the front yard and put them in a dish of water next to my bed to cheer me up. Now, every time I smell gardenia it never fails to put a smile on my face.
Tell us your absolute must-have, can’t-live-without beauty product right now?
Right now (and forever) my favourite beauty product is Weleda’s Skin Food. Skincare is a core part of beauty because makeup application is always going to work better if your skin is taken care of. Not only that, but Skin Food’s tacky, balmy consistency makes it the perfect primer and allows your complexion products to blend like a dream!
If we went into your bathroom cabinet, what products would we find?
My bathroom cabinet is always chockas but the core things you’ll always find are the Dr Hauschka Clarifying Oil, Madara SOS Rose Hydra Jelly, Mad Hippie Oil Cleanser and the Salt By Hendrix Amethyst mask. After many years I feel like I’ve hit my holy grail combo of products and have repurchased all of these more times than I can count.
If you could create your dream fragrance, what would it smell like?
This is the hardest question ever! If I could bottle that smell in the early morning at the time of the year when winter is turning into spring, and the jasmine, lilac and daphne is coming into bloom, it would be that.
What is your all-time favourite perfume that you always go back to? Like your fragrance true love?
Volcano by Carner Barcelona. I fell in love with this fragrance when I first started at Lore and I bought it straight away. Despite there being over 600 other fragrances to turn my head, it will always be my favourite because it makes me feel like the best version of myself.
What perfume are you really, really into at the moment (that’s different to your usual style)?
While it’s hard to have a “usual style” with all the options we have at Lore, a scent I’m loving that’s a bit different for me at the moment is Dirty Hinoki by Heretic. I usually stay away from anything too citrusy, but this fragrance is the perfect marriage of citrus and woods. Also, upon researching Dirty Hinoki, I found its added bonus is that it aids in centering and grounding the heart and mind through its aromatherapeutic properties!
What candle are you burning at home right now?
I toggle between super woody scents and fresher scents for the home, so in colder months Solis Rex by Cire Trudon, but in the warmer months I love Juliet’s Balcony by Nook and Burrow because it reminds me of my childhood garden in spring.
What’s the best thing about being part of the team here at Lore?
The best thing about the Lore team is that they are such a wealth of knowledge – on fragrance, beauty skincare, and everything in between. We are all constantly learning from and teaching eachother, because each person brings something unique to the table. Everyone in the team cares so much, and it means every day we get to have fun not only with the people we’re working with, but with our customers, because we genuinely love being here. I’ve never had an experience like it.
Taking all things sensory, and given scent is so closely linked to taste, what would be your ultimate meal?
I’m a seafood nut, so honestly mussels in simple white wine sauce with heaps of coriander and lemon is my ultimate meal.
Aside from the obvious answer of Lore 😉 what’s your other favourite business in the neighbourhood?
Gizmo Gifts – as a person whose love language is gift giving, if I can’t find something at Lore to give to someone, I know I’ll always find something here.
