It’s time to get to know our team here at Lore Perfumery!
Spoilt for choice with all the best smelly things around town, we know you’re asking the big questions – what are they wearing, what do they love, what do they recommend? Well, read on to get to hear all of the must-haves from…
What do you love about fragrance?
For as long as I can remember, fragrance and scent has been a huge part of my life, and how I go about my day. What I love most about fragrance is its ability to completely transport you somewhere perhaps you have never been, to a place that isn’t even real, or a time that no longer exists. Ive found that my relationship with fragrance is sort of similar to that of why I love acting, with a simple story and blend of a few right notes, you can make someone feel something. My favorite part of my job is watching a customers face when they find ‘the one.’
It all starts somewhere, so what’s your first fragrance memory?
The day may younger sister was born, December 3rd 1999. My mum had bunches of rose lilies in her room in the hospital and still to this day the smell of these fragrant lilies remind me of my sister. I’ve fantasized about creating a fragrance called December 3rd that would showcase this flower.
Tell us your absolute must-have, can’t-live-without beauty product right now?
It is a product we sell at Lore, but I swear I’m not being paid to say this! The Mad Hippie Microdermabrasion Facial. The girls at work were raving about it, and was so impressed by this product. It leaves your skin feeling like you have had a facial, I love it after a long day of mask wearing to clean out my pores and feel like I have taken the day off.
If we went into your bathroom cabinet, what products would we find?
Lots of expired beauty products that I don’t have the heart to throw out, some nair bleach I used to bleach my eyebrows until I bleached them entirely off and swore to never do it again if they grew back, a years supply of bath related products because baths are just superior to showers, let’s face it.
If you could create your dream fragrance, what would it smell like?
Years ago I started a page in the notes app on my phone dedicated to this question exactly! I grew up in the Adelaide Hills, and the smell of the crisp autumn air with jonquils blooming around a bonfire somewhere in a field over is something I would love to bottle. I’m thinking some sort of blend including jonquil, carrot seed, sandalwood, cypress, pink pepper and maybe smoked oak- I’d call it Mylor.
What is your all-time favourite perfume that you always go back to? Like your fragrance true love?
My fragrance one true love is Lumiere Blanche by Olfactive Studios- I found this divine fragrance in Paris 5 years ago. Before I worked at lore, I was a customer and thankfully we stocked the brand so I could replenish whenever I ran out (at an alarmingly fast rate) The day I found out they stopped stocking their products in Australia, I think I shed a wee tear.
What perfume are you really, really into at the moment (that’s different to your usual style)?
This summer I was obsessed with Maison Rebatchi Joyeux Osmanthe, which was such a rogue love, even when I was working and put it on the girls I was with would be like, “wait.. you like what?”. Imagine that friend that is dating this guy who she is obsessed with; he is fun and unlike her usual type but you know that he is just a phase, that was this fragrance for me- a summer fling. There is something so innocent, so skipping-through-a-field-on-a-sunny-afternoon-wearing-a-white-linen-dress about this fragrance. Ripe stone fruits, apricot nectarine are blended with sweet delicate white florals, its joy in a bottle. I imagine it is what the young women in Patrick Suskind’s novel Perfume would smell like (in the least creepy way possible).
What candle are you burning at home right now?
Now the weather is getting colder, I’m burning the Cire Trudon Solis Rex scented cameos, they make my apartment smell like a well sponsored art gallery.
What’s the best thing about being part of the team here at Lore?
The best thing about being part of the team at Lore, is that in itself. I was a customer before I worked at Lore. I was bewitched by the store and the fragrance that spilt out onto the street, I would saunter passed and imagine how delightful it would be to work there, and now I do.
It’s rare to work in a place where you are both passionate about the job, and genuinely get along with your colleagues, but Lore is exactly that for me. I’m excited to come to work and spend the day with a group of kind, passionate and interesting women all while smelling beautiful fragrances and learning about the art and craft of perfumery.
Taking all things sensory, and given scent is so closely linked to taste, what would be your ultimate meal?
A medium rare steak, green sauce, fries and a butter lettuce salad with a glass of Shiraz.
Aside from the obvious answer of Lore 😉 what’s your other favourite business in the neighbourhood?
Lost and Found Market is a weekly visit for me, I could and do spend hours in there. Mario’s a few doors down does the best cherry pie and dirty long black, plus the staff are just the coolest people.
Thanks Mav, love ya!
