The house’s approach in creating the range: to increase parfum concentration, increase the dose of the central main ingredient in each fragrance, and, excitingly, add a new guest ingredient to each fragrance. The Extraits are not just the old fragrances but stronger, they’re elevated in every way.

Creative approach: A powerful and intense fragrance that evokes both the sleek and the suede sides of leather. Matiere Premiere Founder and Perfumer Aurélien Guichard has enriched the original Falcon Leather Eau de Parfum with Oud Assafi Oil Bangladesh as a guest ingredient. Combined with a higher perfume concentration and an even higher dosage of the main natural ingredient, Birch Tar Finland, this exceptional Oud brings warmth, while amplifying the leather notes in Falcon Leather.

HOW IT WEARS
Falcon Leather Extrait begins with the golden radiance of saffron, which after settling on the skin starts to illuminate the other notes. The leather accord comes next – raw, animalic, and unapologetic. It’s in the dry down that Falcon Leather Extrait begins to change, it’s deeper, richer, more resinous and earthy. The Bangladeshi oud intensifies the fragrance, contributing a hay-like organic feel to the scent that is completely captivating and perfectly balances the tendency of the birch tar to lean a little bitter. Falcon Leather Extrait will last 10+ hours of the skin and allows for incredible projection as well.
LORE LOVES
Oud fans, stand up! This intepretation of oud paired with the birch tar leather accord is so perfectly balanced, it’s truly a work of art – it’s equal parts animalic, earthy, resinous, and woody. It’s certainly a powerhouse fragrance, but feels sophisticated at the same time, it’s not overly brash or unrefined. Safe to say we’re obsessed.
ABOUT THE BRAND
Debuted in 2019, Matiere Premiere (or “Raw Materials” in French) is the work of renowned nose and master perfumer, Aurélien Guichard.
The core objective of the Matiere Premiere range is to put a spotlight on some of the most precious fragrance materials from around the world, and to hero the beauty and elegance of a single note fragrance.
A 7th generation perfumer born in Grasse (arguably the perfume capital of the world), Aurélien Guichard has a passion for fragrance running through his veins. He has been the nose behind nearly one hundred fragrances and has worked with brands such as Givenchy, Narcisco Rodriguez, Gucci and Commes de Garcons.
Guichard is also the owner of an organic farm where he produces Rose Centifolia and Tuberose, some of which is used in the Matiere Premiere line, making it one of the only brands in the world to own and produce some of the raw materials used in their fragrances.
