Hinoki Fantôme is a resinous combination of warming and sacred Japanese hinoki woods and earthy spice. Notes of grounding tobacco leaves, oakmoss and smoked leather are all uniquely wrapped in a rich, amber glow. Additions of creamed orris and patchouli smoke make this fragrance complex, but still well balanced.

HOW IT WEARS
Hinoki Fantôme doesn’t follow the rules of the fragrance pyramid in our opinion. It begins its journey with a puff of smoke from the smoked leather and the sharp spice of black pepper. As it wears you begin to pick up the fresher woodsy notes – cyprus, hinoki and cedar. The dry down is where the fragrance melts into a gooey resinous concoction – olibanum, balsum, cistus and tobacco leaves make for a sweet, molasses-y but earthy dry down that’s just irresistible. For us, Hinoki Fantôme lasts around 6 hours on the skin.
LORE LOVES
We love how Hinoki Fantôme changes and evolves throughout its wear. It begins like you’ve just built and lit a fire in the depths of a Japanese forest with some mossy sticks, and slowly the fire has died down just to reveal glowing coals that are no longer smoking, and you’re left with the scent of the crackling undergrowth. This fragrance has the perfect amount of smoke – it’s definitely not overwhelming, just enough to add a little mystery and intrigue to your day.

In late 2015, Boy Smells began as an experiment in candle-making in the Los Angeles kitchen of co-founders and partners Matthew Herman and David Kien. Herman and Kien began by making the things they’d want to use daily – products that were fluid, essential, but also accessible.
