Where can we experience the end of the world? At the movies!

Apocalyptic visions, Armageddon. Doomsday cults, mass suicides. The Mayan calendar. We endured the panic of the Millennium. We’ve seen the films, from “Dr. Strangelove” to “Melancholia”. We know the New Testament prophecies, we’ve heard about the End Times and the Rapture. But one question remains: how will it smell? Like popcorn, of course!

NOTES
Top: Popcorn, Black Pepper, Roasted Sesame
Middle:  Freesia, Cumin Seed, Iris Absolute
Base: Gunpowder Accord, Ambrette Seeds, Sandalwood

HOW IT WEARS
La Fin Du Monde is such a smooth and well balanced composition that no note sticks out too much, they all blend seamlessly and gently together. The iris lends a waxy powderiness to the fragrance that’s made nuttier and more buttery by the popcorn, sesame and ambrette seeds. Warmed and sweetened slightly by freesia with just a dusting of spice and an echo of gunpowder that creeps in towards the end, this fragrance sits closely to the skin but lasts for 6-8 hours.

LORE LOVES
If this is the end of the world, maybe it’s not gonna be so bad. We love that despite being so unique, this is a completely wearable fragrance. There’s a familiarity to La Fin Du Monde that feels comforting and enveloping, with that signature ELdO surprise of the gunpowder at the end, which paired with the other notes smells kind of like roasting nuts. A gourmand like you’ve never experienced before, but we encourage you to… before the world ends!

ABOUT THE BRAND
Founded by Etienne de Swardt in 2006, Etat Libre d’Orange is an ambitious, audacious perfume house. Its name meaning “Free Orange State” in French, this is a house with an emphasis on originality, audacity, authenticity and freedom of expression. Each of Etat Libre d’Orange’s offerings is uncompromisingly surprising and knows no constraints in terms of creativity nor raw materials.
A perfumer for LVMH for many years before going rogue, Etienne de Swardt founded Etat Libre d’Orange with a view to turn the commercial fragrance industry on its head. Its launch certainly made waves, not only due to the raunchy fragrance names, but for the compositions themselves.
Read any review of Etat Libre d’Orange online and you will see a wide range of opinions, from disgusted to delighted, from aroused to inspired. We are obsessed with the daring whimsy of this fragrance house and so excited to have it at Lore!
