Thou shalt not covet, nor desire… unless you really can’t help it of course.
You might find yourself in the Barossa Valley, Australia’s oldest wine region.
Imbibe, then repent. Inhale sacred oils and swirling incense, carried on the breeze of whispered confessions. Plant yourself on pews of guilt, noting their similarity to the rows and rows of curling grapevines lining the valley the church is nestled in.
The irrefutable truth is, you can’t have the body of Christ without his blood!

HOW IT WEARS
Religious Guilt Spritz opens with the scent of incense in a Catholic church – a mixture of sharp yet bright frankincense, the sweet spice of cassia, and myrrh. Aromatic juniper, cypress and cedar come next, echoing the opening but with an earthier edge, softened and sweetened by Turkish rose. The dry down brings it to the Australian outback – a bushy forest floor of buddawood and native sandalwood finish off the wear of this fragrance, which lasts 6-8 hours on the skin.
LORE LOVES
We love everything about Religious Guilt Spritz, from concept to execution. The perfect bush incense fragrance, it’s evocative of a tiny old, weatherboard church tucked away in the outback. Strangely, there is something kind of fresh and even dare we say juicy about it after the opening, redolent of a crisp chilled red – even though none of the notes seem like they would elicit that kind of aroma, but hey! That’s the magic of fragrance.
ABOUT THE BRAND
Founded in 2019 by Craig Andrade, The Raconteur (“The Storyteller”) is an artisanal luxury fragrance brand specialising in Australian native botanicals and plant extracts.
Having attended one of the world’s most prestigious fragrance schools in Grasse, France, and trained by Elise Pioch Balzac, Andrade knows his perfume. Working with world leader in natural perfumery, Mandy Aftel, he has created Australian botanical extracts and fragrances for use in collaboration with Troye Sivan for Tsu Lange Yor, Paspaley and Cult Design.
“My perfumery practice straddles beauty, art, history, science, botany, geography, and physiology. It comprises rich layers of storytelling and meaning. My focus is on making natural fragrances that combine these elements and provide both pleasure and purpose.” – Craig Andrade
As a fragrance house, The Raconteur is about telling the story of the scent of Australia – a story about the quiet beauty of what was always there. They aim to not only showcase the better-known Australian botanicals (sandalwood, boronia, lemon myrtle, etc) but the rarer ones too – Australia has over 18,000 unique native botanicals, and new ones are being discovered all the time!
All of The Raconteur fragrances are comprised of solely natural ingredients (100% plant derived) and are all vegan and cruelty free.
