Manufactured at their workshop in Normandy, Trudon’s classic candles are crafted using unrivalled know-how inherited from master candle makers. Each of the glass vessels are unique, hand blown in Tuscany, their shape inspired by the champagne bucket. Using high-quality vegetal waxes and cotton wicks (each differently shaped so as to best showcase the fine fragrance of each candle) the classic candles are timeless objects that combine history, expert craftsmanship and luxe home fragrance.

The histories of Versailles and Trudon have been interconnected for nearly 400 years, brought together by King Louis XIV. In the early 1600s, Versailles was essentially a simple hunting lodge until Louis XIV decided to renovate it, transforming it into the ornate palace with breathtaking grounds we know it as today.
Louis XIV, also known as the Sun King, spared no expense when it came to the Palace of Versailles. His Hall of Mirrors was lit with thousands of Trudon candles – which is how the house ended up acquiring his royal seal. He also poured money into the landscaping of the palace grounds and gardens, where he threw many an extravagant party, known as the “pleasures” of Versailles.
These “pleasures” are the inspiration for the Versailles collection, which provides an olfactory and chromatic link between the palace and its fabulous gardens. The Versailles fragrance captures the scent of the palace grounds in spring, when flowers are blooming, herbs are fresh, and you can sit under the verdant foliage of splendid trees to take it all of its pleasures in. The 70g candles burn for approximately 18-20 hours. Please follow the instructions enclosed with your candle to get the most out of it.
HOW IT SMELLS
Versailles comes into bloom florals first – you smell fresh peony and creamy tuberose, as well as honeyed linden blossom and sweet honeysuckle. Then you begin to pick up the herbs – thyme and rosemary most prominent. Blue Iris adds a green, vegetal facet to which contributes to the overall realism of the fragrance, which is grounded by earthy oak.

The choice of florals and herbs is so distinctly French, chosen with great care to reflect the exact plants found in the palace gardens. ABOUT THE BRAND
Founded in 1643, Trudon is the oldest wax manufacturer in the world.
In 1640s Paris, Claude Trudon, a convenience store owner, began to make tapered candles with a new methodology he had developed, utilising a special blend of beeswax and vegetable wax. His high-quality candles rapidly gained popularity, as they didn’t warp, smoke or splutter, and therefore didn’t cause fires!
In 1702, Trudon opened a factory so that their highly sought-after candles could be manufactured on a larger scale. Before long, their secret wax formula (still used today!) attracted the attention of the Crown. The house of Trudon became the candle provider to the Royal Court of Louis XIV, as well as many of the great churches of France. Louis XIV was so impressed with their candles that he issued a seal of approval with his official family crest. This crest can now be seen affixed to every Trudon product, with the addition of the motto “Deo regique laborant”, which means: “they (the bees) work for God and the King”, a nod to the creature that made their successful wax formula possible!
By the mid-17th century, Trudon had become the largest wax manufacturer in France. As candle makers to the Royal Court, Trudon were commissioned to make candles for many French icons – from Louis XIV to Marie Antoinette to Napoleon Bonaparte. Napoleon actually commissioned Trudon to make a candle for the birth of his son – rumoured to be the only gift he ever gave him – a black candle made in his likeness, adorned in gold.
Fast forward to 2007 when the house took the name Trudon and became the leading specialist in manufacturing perfumed candles. All their candles are still hand-made, using traditional production methods akin to those Claude Trudon would have used in the 1600s. In their Normandy factory, each candle is hand-poured into hand-blown vessels from Tuscany. Today, Trudon has extended their range to a line of genderless perfumes in addition to their variety of options for luxuriously fragrancing your space.
